Taylor Swift obtains five-year restraining order against stalker
According to court documents, Brian Jason Wagner has attempted to enter the singer's residence multiple times.
Superstar Taylor Swift has achieved an important legal victory in her fight to ensure her personal safety. A Los Angeles County court this week issued a five-year restraining order against Brian Jason Wagner, a 45-year-old man accused of persistently harassing her throughout 2024.
According to court documents, Wagner allegedly attempted multiple times to contact the singer, approach her properties, and even break into them. Among the evidence presented by Swift's legal team is three documented attempts to break into properties linked to the artist, as well as the sending of letters from prison.
In addition, Wagner allegedly changed his legal address to match that of the “Karma” singer, a gesture that his lawyers described as a clear indication of a “growing obsession.”
One of the most alarming incidents occurred in July 2024, when police found him near one of Swift's residences carrying a glass bottle, raising concerns that he may have intended to cause harm.
Given this pattern of behavior, the court issued a restraining order prohibiting Wagner from not only approaching Taylor Swift, but also her homes, workplaces, vehicles, and any space where she is. The measure, in effect until 2030, also bars her from carrying weapons—including bulletproof vests—and warns that any violation could lead to more severe criminal consequences.
Swift clarified that she had no relationship with Wagner
In a statement filed with the court, Swift clarified that she has never had any relationship with Wagner and that her claims of an alleged romantic relationship are completely false. The singer said that the man's behavior caused her genuine fear for her physical and emotional safety.
This is not the first case of harassment that the artist has faced. In 2018, a man was arrested after breaking into his apartment in New York, where he slept in her bed and used her shower. That episode, which led to criminal charges, highlighted the constant risks that public figures—especially women—face from the excessive obsession of some fans.
Taylor Swift's legal team has reiterated its commitment to taking strong action against any threat, no matter how small. This new court ruling not only strengthens the artist's protections, but also sends a clear message: harassment will not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, the case against Wagner will continue in court, with the possibility that she will face additional charges if she is found to have violated the restraining order in the past or does so in the future.
