The Congress will start its 3,570-km-long Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari today i.e. on Wednesday, to communicate directly with the public on various issues and to launch a campaign against the central government. The purpose of this party's visit is to strengthen itself in the battle of ideas.

Former party president Rahul Gandhi will begin the yatra after attending a prayer meeting at the memorial of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur. It was here that Rajiv Gandhi died in a terrorist attack three decades ago. Rahul will address a public meeting near the beach of Kanyakumari this evening, marking the formal start of his yatra. During this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will also be present. Stalin will hand over a national flag to Rahul.

In a video message, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told the people, wherever possible, join the Yatra. He said that this visit is necessary because negative politics is being done in the country and real issues related to the people are not being discussed. He said that the purpose of the yatra is to focus on issues related to the people like inflation, unemployment. Congress says that its visit is political, but its purpose is not to take political advantage, but to unite the country.

On September 4, Rahul Gandhi had said about this visit in a rally on the inflation of Congress at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, at present, the opposition has no way left but to communicate directly with the public because the Modi government on constitutional institutions. There is control and pressure on a large section of the media. In this way, this journey is being taken out.

The 3,570-km long journey from Kanyakumari to Srinagar will formally begin with the rally, but in reality Gandhi and several other Congress leaders will begin the 'padayatra' on January 8 at 7 am. Before the start of the yatra, Rahul Gandhi will also visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar Statue and Kamaraj Memorial in Kanyakumari.

The padyatra will reach Kerala on September 11 and travel through the state for the next 18 days to reach Karnataka on September 30. The yatra will last for 21 days in Karnataka and then move northwards to other states. Congress has selected 118 such leaders along with Rahul Gandhi who will accompany him in the entire journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. These people have been given the name Bharat Yatri. They will cover an average distance of 22-23 km per day.

The journey will start from Kanyakumari and then move northwards passing through Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Nilambur, Mysuru, Bellary, Raichur, Vikarabad, Nanded, Jalgaon, Indore, Kota, Dausa, Alwar, Bulandshahr, Delhi, Ambala, Pathankot, Jammu Later it will end in Srinagar. The participants of the Yatra have been classified as 'Bharat Yatri' as well as 'Atithi Yatri' and 'Pradesh Yatri'.

According to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, 'Assistant Yatras' will be taken out in the states through which this yatra is not passing, in which the people involved will cover a distance of 75 to 100 kilometers. The Congress says that more than 40,000 common people who are not related to the party have also registered on the Bharat Jodo Yatra website. Because of this, a new category of volunteer passengers has also been included.
