The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has approved the holding of the postponed first meeting of the MCD on February 6, as proposed by the Deputy CM and the CM. Along with this, the governor has asked for the election of mayor, deputy mayor and a 6-member standing committee.

Earlier, to avoid reprimand from the Supreme Court, the MCD has initiated the process of calling a meeting of the house to elect the mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committee. The MCD has sent a file to the Delhi government for convening a meeting of the house on February 10, while the Delhi government, while amending the file, had sent a proposal to the Lieutenant Governor to convene the meeting on any one of February 3, 4 and 6. The governor has given approval to hold the meeting on February 6. Aam Aadmi Party's mayoral candidate Shaili Oberoi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court in this matter.

First of all, the Governor had fixed January 6 as the date of the meeting of the House under the proposal of the MCD. On this day there was uproar as soon as the oath-taking of the councilors started. After this, he again fixed the date of the meeting of the House under the proposal of the Delhi Government. According to the proposal of the Delhi government, he had fixed the date of the meeting of the House on January 24. On this day, after the oath was administered to the corporators, there was an uproar in the meeting of the House. Because of this, the election of the mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committee could not be held.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party's mayoral candidate Shaili Oberoi filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the election was not held in the House meeting. The Supreme Court last Friday decided to hear his petition on February 3. Due to this, the MCD did not initiate the process on Friday for calling the meeting of the House. During this, the MCD had decided that it would take the initiative to call the meeting only after the decision of the Supreme Court, but on Monday, the lawyers of the MCD opined that it is not right to wait for the order of the Supreme Court in this regard, because the Supreme Court The court is yet to hear the petition. For this reason, the MCD can be reprimanded by the Supreme Court while hearing the petition. Therefore, the MCD should initiate the process of calling a meeting of the House.
