The Election Commission has barred the Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde factions from using the party's name Shiv Sena and its bow and arrow symbol. The commission has given time till October 10 to Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde faction. Both the factions have staked their claim on Shiv Sena and have also declared the election symbol as their own.

The Election Commission asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the Uddhav Thackeray faction about the priority of Shiv Sena's new symbol and gave time till October 10 for the new symbol.

The Election Commission has barred the Thackeray and Shinde factions from using the party's name and its symbol. After which Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray faction cannot use its election symbol at the moment.

The Election Commission has asked for new election symbols from both the groups for the by-election, so that both the factions can enter the fray in the by-election. In the interim decision, the Election Commission said that both the Shiv Sena factions can choose new names in the Maharashtra by-elections, they will be allotted election symbols. Both the parties have been asked to present free election symbols by 1 pm on October 10.

It is known that the Eknath Shinde faction had submitted a memorandum demanding allotment of arrow bow symbol in view of the Andheri East assembly by-election being near. The commission, in a letter to Thackeray, had asked him to respond with necessary documents by 2 pm on October 8.
