The Punjab Police on Friday claimed to have arrested Yuvraj Sabharwal alias Yash, who planted explosive devices at the Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali in May. Simultaneously, he claimed to have busted a terror module backed by ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency, run by Canadian gangster Lakhbir Singh alias Landa and Pakistani gangster Harvinder Singh Rinda. A Punjab Police statement said Lakhbir Singh is believed to be close to Harvinder Singh, who had joined hands with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and both have close links with the ISI. Lakhbir Singh played a key role in planning the rocket propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali in May and also planted an IED under the car of Sub Inspector Dilbag Singh in Amritsar.

A statement issued by the police said that the Punjab Police on Friday arrested Yuvraj Sabharwal alias Yash, who had planted the explosive device on the instructions of Lakhbir Singh. Sabharwal is the eighth accused to be arrested in this case. The arrested criminals have been identified as Baljit Singh Malhi (25) of Jogewal village and Gurbaksh Singh alias Gora Sandhu of Buh Gujran village of Ferozepur. Police said the FIR was registered at the State Special Operations Cell in Amritsar under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the police team led by Jalandhar Additional Inspector General (Counter Intelligence) Navjot Singh Mahal arrested the duo and on Gurbaksh Singh's statement from his village two magazines along with an AK-56 rifle, Seized 90 cartridges and two bullets. Preliminary investigation revealed that Malhi was in touch with Harpreet Singh alias Happy Sanghera of Italy and on Sanghera's instructions, Baljit Singh picked up a consignment of arms from Makhu-Lohiyan road in Sudan village in July 2022. Later, he hid the consignment in the fields owned by Gurbaksh Singh.

The DGP said that it has also been learned that Baljit Singh was in direct contact with various gangsters including Canada's Lakhbir Landa and Arsh Dalla. He said further investigation is on and more weapons are expected to be recovered soon. Yadav said that the war against gangsters by Punjab Police on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would continue till Punjab emerges as a gangster free state.

According to Yadav, Yuvraj Sabharwal is a resident of Navi Abadi Faizpura and was arrested from Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. Yadav said Sabharwal had been involved in various heinous crimes including attempt to murder, dacoity and robbery in the past. The DGP said that along with Sabharwal, the police have also arrested two of his associates Pawan Kumar alias Shiva Machi and Sahil alias Machi. Both are residents of Chamrang Road in Amritsar. Many cases are already registered against both of them.
