Responding to a question by state-run Chinese media on the protests against alleged remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, "We have looked into the relevant news." We are hopeful that the incident concerned can be dealt with properly.

He said that it is important to give up arrogance and prejudice and everyone should respect each other's religions. The BJP on June 5 suspended its national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled its Delhi unit's media chief Naveen Kumar Jindal for his alleged remarks on Prophet Mohammad.

Amid protests by Muslim groups over the remarks, the party issued a statement aimed at addressing the concerns of minorities, saying it respected all religions. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that India gives the highest respect to all religions. The ministry spokesman said last week that the objectionable tweets and comments defaming a religious personality were made by certain individuals.

He had said that they do not in any way reflect the views of the Government of India and strict action has already been taken against these persons by the respective bodies. Significantly, China is facing serious allegations of large-scale crackdown against Uighur Muslims in its Xinjiang province. However, China has been denying these allegations.
