For the first time prominent Buddhist monks from different countries will come to India and participate in this summit. He also said that the summit will discuss how to deal with contemporary challenges with the help of Buddhist philosophy and thought. This global summit will underline India's relevance and importance in Buddhism, as Buddhism originated in India. He also said that the theme of this two-day Global Buddhist Summit is "Responding to Contemporary Challenges: From Philosophy to Practice".

Kishan Reddy also pointed out that this global summit would also prove to be a medium for furthering cultural and diplomatic relations with other countries. The Union Minister informed that delegates from around 30 countries and around 171 delegates from foreign countries and 150 delegates from Indian Buddhist organizations would participate in the summit.

Sangh leaders and followers of the religion are participating. The participants include 173 international participants including 84 Sangha members and 151 Indian delegates including 46 Sangha members, 40 nuns and 65 lay religious from outside Delhi. About 200 persons from NCR region will also participate in the conference, including more than 30 ambassadors from foreign embassies.
