After intensifying further on Saturday, the low-pressure area over North Andaman Sea is likely to take the form of a cyclone by October 24 . According to the bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department, this low-pressure area has formed 1460 km south-southeast of Sagar Island in West Bengal. According to the bulletin, this low-pressure area is moving west-northwestwards and started taking a severe form near Andaman Sea from around 8.30 am on Saturday.

According to the Meteorological Department, it is expected to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and over east-central region by the morning of 23 October. According to the department, it is expected to move slowly again north-northeastwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over the middle of the Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 24.

Thailand has suggested the name 'Sitrang' for this possible cyclonic storm. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen to avoid going into the central Bay of Bengal and deep sea areas on Saturday. The Regional Center of Meteorological Department at Bhubaneswar has issued a warning of torrential rains in the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Baleshwar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Cuttack and Khurda. Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena said, we have issued an alert for eight districts. The state is ready to deal with this challenge.
