Chuck Schumer accuses Donald Trump of selling Ukraine
The Senate minority leader reproached Donald Trump for tipping the balance in favor of the Kremlin and condemning Ukraine to give up part of its territory
After the meeting held in Alaska between Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, and President Donald Trump, where the Republican announced his intention to definitively end the war with Ukraine through a peace agreement without first implementing a temporary ceasefire, Charles Ellis Schumer, Senate minority leader, criticized him for tipping the balance in favor of the Kremlin.
In Trump's view, after more than three years of the armed conflict that is taking place in Ukraine, a ceasefire is not the most viable route to end the problem and, although he prevented Volodymyr Zelensky, president of Ukraine, from being present at the meeting with Putin, he practically assumes that he also agrees.
"Everyone decided that the best way to end the terrible war between Russia and Ukraine is about directly reaching a peace agreement, which would end the war, and not a simple ceasefire agreement, which often doesn't hold up," the New Yorker wrote on the Truth Social platform.
In this regard, Chuck Schumer lashed out at Donald Trump, claiming that he gave in to Vladimir Putin's interests.
"Instead of supporting Ukraine and our allies, Trump allied himself with an autocrat who has terrorized the Ukrainian people and the world for years. "It appears Trump has given Putin legitimacy, a global stage, zero accountability, and nothing in return," he wrote on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
The Democrat anticipated that having turned his back on the Ukrainian people would be one of the major impediments to preventing him from aspiring to the Nobel Peace Prize that he claims to deserve.
"Once again, Trump is betraying Ukraine and kowtowing to dictator Putin. There is no Nobel Peace Prize for that," he stressed.
It should be noted that a meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to take place on Monday in Washington, where the Ukrainian leader's initial position is to refuse to give up territory that Russia is seeking.
