Editorial: By Mike Gipson to the California Board of Equalization

For the June 2 primary, state Assemblyman Mike Gipson is running for the California Board of Equalization, District 3, covering Los Angeles County, with nine other candidates.
The Board standardizes property tax assessments, advises county assessors, and resolves taxpayer appeals. It is critical to funding community services and overseeing the interests of the population.
A native of Los Angeles and resident of the city of Carson, where he was a councilman, completed his fourth biennial term in the Legislative Assembly. He was active in child abuse, health and safety legislation students, improvements in teacher training, urgent loans to hospitals, expansion of unemployment insurance, fighting human trafficking, prison improvement and crucial issues for the community.
She has built ties with the Latino community, strongly rejecting Trump's anti-immigrant policies and supporting a sanctuary state. She wrote: “California will not let herself be bullied.”
He is supported by a long list of unions, the Democratic party and numerous elected officials.
In responses to The Opinion, Gipson supports more “transparency and public education” on the Board, since “tax matters should include oversight by elected officials those responsible” and proposes “that the evaluation be more visible, strengthen the presentation of reports on county practices and ensure that the public knows who to turn.”
“This is a role that requires knowledge, independence and a deep respect for public trust,” he stated. We agree.
