Senate Parliamentarian Blocks $1 Billion Trump Ballroom Project
Chuck Schumer assured that Democrats “will be ready” to stop a new attempt to authorize resources for Trump's ballroom
The Senate Parliamentarian ruled to block a spending item of the $1 billion dollar project that would be destined for the ballroom of President Donald Trump's White House.
"Republicans tried to force taxpayers to pay for Trump's $1 billion ballroom. Senate Democrats responded and we defeated their first attempt," said Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.
After the resolution was released, Chuck Schumer assured that Democrats in the Senate “will be ready” to stop a new attempt by Republicans to authorize resources for the ballroom.
"Democrats will continue to fight this in every way possible: in the Byrd Bath, on the Senate floor with votes, and wherever else Republicans try to loot Americans' hard-earned money for Trump's golden palace. The contrast couldn't be clearer: Democrats fight for American families. Republicans fight for Trump," he said.
The decision is a setback for Donald Trump, who considers the Ballroom one of his star projects and part of his presidential legacy.
Republicans had requested these funds for security purposes, alluding to the assassination attempt against Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, although the president has insisted that the works will be financed through contributions from private donors.
"At a time when families are suffering from the cost of food, gas, housing and health care, Republicans continue to try to spend taxpayer dollars on Trump's vanity project instead of reducing costs for the American people. Americans don't want a ballroom. They don't need a ballroom. And they definitely shouldn't be forced to pay for one," Chuck Schumer insisted.
According to President Trump, this ballroom, which has sparked intense debate among the public, will be inaugurated in September 2028.
“Its inauguration is scheduled for around September 2028… It is under construction, ahead of schedule, and it will be the most magnificent facility of its kind in the entire United States,” the president said in a message on his Truth Social network.
