Trump warns that by not winning the Nobel Prize he no longer feels obligated to think only about peace
The US president said he will dedicate himself to thinking about what is good and appropriate for the United States
“Dear Jonas: Given that your country decided not to award me the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping eight wars, and more, I no longer feel obliged to think solely about peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and appropriate for the United States,” he says in a message leaked by PBS News correspondent Nick Schifrin. The Republican leader linked the United States' expansionist threat to Greenland to not having received that distinction. “Denmark is not capable of protecting that territory from Russia or China, and furthermore, why would it have a supposed 'right of ownership'? There are no written documents, only the fact that a ship arrived there hundreds of years ago, but we sent ships too," he adds. In his opinion, he has done "more for NATO than anyone else since its creation." "Now NATO should do something for the United States. The world will not be safe unless..." that we have full and absolute control of Greenland," he concludes.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded its 2025 prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado "for her tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people."
However, in a meeting at the White House on January 15, Machado gave him her medal as a token of gratitude for the US operation that deposed Nicolas Maduro earlier that month, although Oslo has already pointed out that the award is non-transferable.
Trump insisted this Monday that the time has come to “eliminate” the “Russian threat” from Greenland.
“For 20 years, NATO has told Denmark that it must eliminate the Russian threat from Greenland. Unfortunately,Denmark has not been able to do it. The time has come, and it will be done,” he stated on his social media network, Truth Social.
