Javier Aguirre revealed what he wants the Tri to do in the final against the United States
The coach has seen improvement in the Mexican national team as the tournament progresses and said that his team has to work on offense and defend with the ball
Mexico complied and advanced to the final of the Gold Cup, now they just need to crown the performance with a victory against the United States, but it will not be an easy battle and Javier Aguirre, the coach of the Tri knows it, but he is already very clear about what his team has to work on to get the title.
“The title would give us more strength. On Sunday we need to be accurate in attack and defend with the ball,” he concluded.
Regarding the issue of harassment of migrants in the United States, where the tournament is being held and against whom they will compete for the title, “El Vasco” said that these are issues that do not concern him and that he does not care too much whether the opponent is the U.S. or any other team, since El Tri’s commitment is always to go out and win.
“We have no animosity toward any opponent; if one or the other is there, we will try to win. We are playing for a title and I don’t see beyond the 90 minutes; I am not going to get involved in something that does not concern me,” said the strategist.
Mexico defeated Honduras 1-0 in the semifinal and qualified for the final against the Americans, which “El Vasco” celebrated because, according to him, the victories have been a consequence of good football.
“We have improved a little in each match. Today we did not have much clarity because The opponent pressed, but we maintained possession; we had 3 or 4 shots on goal and went four games without a clean sheet,” he observed.
Vasco’s respect for the Honduras national team
Aguirre praised the Hondurans who faced Mexico without hesitation until the last minute and assumed that if the Central Americans maintain the level they showed this Wednesday they will qualify for the World Cup.
“If they play like that, with that attitude and that courage, they should have no problem reaching the World Cup. I would like to see them in the World Cup because Honduras has been a difficult opponent for us, with players in Europe, a good coach and a fighting capacity like ours,” he noted.
Finally,The coach admitted that all his players are maintaining a consistent level, and he's struggling to put together the starting lineup.
"They're very evenly matched. There's not one player above us, or the other way around. Today, Jesús Gallardo was missing from the defense because he's suspended; the other time it was César Montes, and his absence wasn't noticed. It's a pain to leave three players out every game," he concluded.
