Julio Cesar Chavez ignores injunctions to avoid detention of his son
Julio Cesar Chavez stated that his son is not a criminal and that he is unaware of the injunctions filed
Julio Cesar Chavez, Mexican boxing legend, stated that he is unaware of the injunctions his son filed to avoid the detention of Chavez Jr. when he is deported to Mexico from the United States.
“I know that there are many people who want to help me and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart, but I want to make it clear that I am unaware of the injunctions that have been filed to date,” the former world champion explained in a letter published on his X account.
Last Sunday, the head of Mexico's Attorney General's Office (FGR), Alejandro Gertz Manero, stated that the lawyers for Chavez Jr., detained in the United States for alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel, filed five to six injunctions to avoid being arrested as soon as he steps foot in Mexican territory.
“They have presented us, I don't know if five or six injunctions on behalf of this person (Chavez Jr.) so that he is released as soon as he arrives in Mexico (…) We have denied the injunction because it is not appropriate, because we do not have him in our possession,” Gertz Manero said at a press conference.
Julio Cesar Chavez: “My son is not a criminal”
Chavez Jr. was scheduled to attend a couple of hearings on Monday to defend himself of crimes that are being investigated in the United States and another for his deportation process, however he did not appear.
I am convinced that the facts will be clarified because my son is not a criminal (...) I ask you to respect my privacy, that of my family and the legal process that is currently underway, Chavez Sr. stated in his letter.
The arrest took place a few days after the former middleweight division champion lost a fight in Anaheim (USA) to YouTuber Jake Paul.
The US government accuses him of having ties to the Sinaloa Cartel, in addition to not having the documents to be legally in the country.
The US authorities revealed that El Hijo de la Leyenda had an arrest warrant in Mexico for alleged organized crime offenses.
