The Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro is crowned in the Tour of Austria and is the second Latino to win it
After 5 stages, the Mexican revelation of the Giro dItalia was crowned in Austria
The Mexican Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) was proclaimed winner of the Tour of Austria, this Sunday, after the fifth and final stage, of 144.2 kilometers, with start and finish in Feldkirch, which was won by Luxembourger Bob Jungels (INEOS Grenadiers).
Del Toro, 21, had managed to win the second, third and fourth stages of the Tour of Austria, taking the lead on Saturday, overtaking Irishman Archie Ryan (EF Education).
The Mexican accumulated a total time of 17:51:18, leaving Ryan in second place, 29 seconds behind, and his UAE Team Emirates teammate, Poland's Rafal Majka, who completed the general classification podium in third, 47 seconds behind.
With this victory, the Mexican becomes the second Latin American to win the competition, behind Ecuadorian Johan Narvaez, who achieved it in 2021. Before him, the best participation by a Latin American belonged to Argentine Eduardo Sepulveda, who finished second in the 2019 edition. Now, Isaac del Toro has demonstrated the power of Latin America in cycling.
Although the 21-year-old Mexican is attracting attention in the cycling world, he did not compete in the Tour de France, one of the most important events in the sport, due to a strategic decision by his team. However, he once again proved his worth in Austria.
"We want Isaac to continue growing step by step. He already demonstrated his level in the Giro, now it's time to protect his development," his team said a few weeks ago, when it was announced that he would not be competing in France.
