Chivas' coach is not satisfied and says that his team needs to improve to access the quarterfinals
Chivas is in the play-in zone and dreams of reaching the quarterfinals, but its coach mentions that his team is not yet at the optimal level to achieve its goal
Argentine Gabriel Milito, coach of Chivas de Guadalajara, celebrated his team's good performance this Saturday, but considered that it is not enough to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2025 Apertura tournament of the League MX.
“What we've done up to this point is good, but it's not enough, and now we'll have to continue fighting in these last four games,” he stated at a press conference after the 2-0 win over Mazatlan.
On matchday 13 of the Apertura, Chivas won with goals from Omar Govea and Armando Gonzalez.
Milito highlighted the team's dedication, which generated plays from the first minutes of the match that ended with attempts on the opponent's goal.
“We had good judgment and good arrivals at the opponent's goal. From start to finish, we saw a dedicated team, and that speaks volumes about our mentality and desire to reach our initial objective,” he emphasized.
Guadalajara has 20 points out of a possible 39 and is placed in eighth place in the standings.
Milito highlighted the performance of Armando Gonzalez, 22 years old, who became the Mexican with the most goals in the current tournament, with seven goals.
“I'm happy that our number nine is on a scoring streak; we need his goals. I'm not just focused on the goals he needs to build up his confidence, but also on the great effort he puts into his defensive duties,” he said.
The strategist asked not to overestimate Gonzalez's streak, who has earned a place in the starting lineup, although he still has a lot of learning to do.
“We have to leave him alone; let him continue his development because he still has a lot of boxes to fill. For his age, he's doing well, but making it to the national team is a big deal, don't confuse him,” he said.
On Matchday 14, Chivas will visit Gallos de Queretaro next Wednesday, sixteenth in the standings.
