Cowboys coach sees no problem with Tom Brady's presence in training
Tom Brady banned from NFL team training facilities and meetings
Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer downplayed Tom Brady's presence at games as a television analyst on Wednesday, despite the fact that the former quarterback is also a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, the Cowboys' Week 11 rivals.
Schottenheimer and Johnson rule out conflict of interests
Both Schottenheimer and Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson agreed that Brady’s dual role doesn’t pose a risk of giving the Raiders a competitive advantage. He also works as a star analyst for Fox Sports and also serves on the Las Vegas team’s front office.
“I’m not worried. We change what we do weekly. Tom will be able to see the tape, just like anyone else has access to it right now,” Johnson said when questioned by the press.
For his part, Schottenheimer was blunt:
“Let’s be clear. Everyone has everyone’s playbook. Everyone knows someone who’s been on another team. I have no problem with this.”
The NFL’s stance on Brady
The NFL clarified in a statement that Tom Brady is prohibited from going to team facilities for workouts or production meetings. However, there is no rule preventing him from sitting in the coaches' booth or wearing a headset during a game.
The issue sparked controversy after Brady was spotted last Sunday at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Raiders, wearing headphones and closely following the game plan during the 20-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Pete Carroll supports Tom Brady
From the Raiders, coach Pete Carroll defended the seven-time Super Bowl champion's position, assuring that he does not interfere in the team's decisions.
"Tom has tried to comply with everything with rigor and respect. He is not planning games with us or talking to us about anything other than our conversations. He is very respectful," Carroll explained.
