Haiti placed first in its group and opts for a direct spot in the 2026 World Cup
The Haitian national team achieved a resounding 0-3 victory over Nicaragua this Thursday at the National Stadium in Managua, in a match corresponding to the third round of Group C of the Concacaf Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
The match was marked by a suspension of more than an hour due to the intense rain and a power outage at the capital's stadium, but not even that stopped the Haitians from taking the lead in the group with 5 points.
Haiti imposes its hierarchy in Managua
Although Nicaragua began dominating the actions, Haiti took advantage of its speed and forcefulness on the counterattack to open the scoring early.
In the 12th minute, Duckens Nazon took advantage of an error by goalkeeper Miguel Rodriguez after a cross from Josue Casimir and put the score at 0-1 for the visitors.
The match was stopped in the 29th minute due to a power outage caused by the storm and resumed after an hour.
Haiti extended its lead in the 35th with a header from Danley Jean Jacques after a corner kick from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
In the second half, Nicaragua insisted on looking for a goalkeeper, but goalkeeper Johny Placide kept his goal zero with good saves.
Already in added time, Deedson Louicius sentenced the match at 90+2 with the third goal, after a precise cross from Duke Lacroix, sealing the 0-3 rout.
With this result, Haiti consolidates its position as leader of Group C with five points and dreams of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, while Nicaragua is on the verge of elimination with only one point in three rounds.
Honduras and Haiti remain in first place with five points. For its part, Costa Rica is in third place with three points and in a critical situation in the Qualifiers.
