Lakers suffer against Utah Jazz but get fourth straight win
The Lakers battled quarter by quarter against Utah and closed out the final play defensively to secure the victory
The Los Angeles Lakers narrowly defeated the Utah Jazz 108-106 to secure their fourth straight win and improve their record to 12-4.
Both teams battled neck and neck from the opening tip to the final buzzer, with neither team holding a lead of more than 13 points.
The Lakers squandered a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, reeling from a barrage of three-pointers and some good defensive plays by Utah.
Luka Doncic scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while LeBron James added 17 points in his first road game of the season. James also had eight assists and six rebounds in 34 minutes.
Austin Reaves scored 22 points and Rui Hachimura added 13 for the Lakers. For his part, Lauri Markkanen scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and was key to the Jazz's comeback.
Lakers secured a narrow road victory
No team led by more than nine points until the Lakers went on a 13-0 run capped by a Doncic three-pointer with 6:06 remaining, giving Los Angeles a 98-85 lead.
The largest lead before that was when the Lakers were up 67-58. The Jazz went on a 16-2 run to take a 74-69 lead midway through the third quarter.
Utah had the final possession of the game with 5.8 seconds left on the clock.
Keynote George took possession and attempted a three-pointer, but Maxi Kleber defended him well and he missed the shot.
The Lakers' next game will be this Wednesday, November 26, at Crypto.com Arena against the Los Angeles Clippers for the NBA Cup.
The Lakers will play two consecutive NBA Cup games because they will then face the Dallas Mavericks.
After the victory against Utah, the purple and gold will play four consecutive home games.
