Marc Cucurella believes that LaLiga is losing ground with the Premier League
The Chelsea defender assured that the millions have benefited the Premier League clubs. Cucurella recognizes that in England there is parity due to money
For many years, Spanish football was one of the highest level in Europe. In addition to Real Madrid and Barcelona, ??the other LaLiga clubs competed very well in continental tournaments. However, Marc Cucurella highlighted the Premier League's great progress thanks to money.
In LaLiga, it's very difficult to have a champion other than FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Only Atletico de Madrid has managed to break the dominance of the two Spanish giants. Marc Cucurella believes that there is much more equality in the Premier League, and this is thanks to the large financial injections into each of the teams in the tournament.
"I think the distribution of money in England is greater. For example, the teams that get promoted get a lot of money, and in the end, that allows all the teams to sign great players, and that evens out the championship. That's why every game in the Premier League is a battle," Cucurella told Diario AS.
The Chelsea footballer cited Sunderland as an example, a club recently promoted to the Premier League that has made a significant investment to match its level with the clubs in England's top division. This case is very different from that of Real Oviedo, a newly promoted club in Spain that only invested just over $4 million in signings for its return to LaLiga.
“Sunderland, who just got promoted, have invested 200 million in players, and Crystal Palace have signed two of the best in LaLiga, such as Yeremy and Uche. That's something they should fix, because LaLiga is falling behind the Premier League and that's causing players to go to England to play,” Cucurella added.
The Premier League destroyed LaLiga
During this last transfer window, Premier League teams spent around $4.247 billion dollars, according to unofficial figures. The most expensive signing went to Liverpool, with the signing of Alexander Isak for $175.6 million.
LaLiga lagged far behind in this regard. Spanish football teams only invested around $798 million in total. The most expensive signing in Spanish football was made by Real Madrid. The Merengues acquired Dean Huijsen for $73 million.
