The Mexican national team lost 1-2 to South Korea on Tuesday in their opening match of the U-17 World Cup in Qatar, in a game they dominated but paid the price for their lack of finishing in both penalty areas.

Mexico started stronger and finished several plays in the opposing penalty area The South Korean defense worked hard defensively and slowed the pace of the game with several fouls in their own half. The Asians hadn't yet created any danger when they took the lead thanks to a rebound off Hyeon-bin Koo from a corner kick in the 19th minute. With the goal, the North American team went even further in search of the game and began to trouble the goal defended by Do-hun Park. After a series of chances, including one from a corner, Mexico's number 9, Aldo De Nigris, headed home from close range to make it 1-1 just before halftime. Mexico played with a very high defensive line in the second half, and a poor clearance by their goalkeeper, Santiago Lopez, gave Nam Ian an excellent opportunity, which he converted to put South Korea back in front 2-1 (48th minute). The team coached by Carlos Carino continued to search for the equalizer, but they were unable to break down the South Korean defense, who were more clinical and secured their first three points of the tournament.
