One Piece letter delivered by the Dodgers sold for almost $15,000 on eBay
The collectible, inspired by Monkey D. Luffy, reached a historic value among anime and baseball fans
A special collectible card that the Los Angeles Dodgers gave away during their “One Piece Night” on July 3rd reached a surprising price on the market. The item, which blends the world of anime with baseball, sold this week on eBay for $14,999.99, a figure that reflects the growing demand for items linked to Japanese pop culture. The piece belongs to the collectible card game based on the popular series One Piece, and shows the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy dressed in a Dodgers uniform, sporting a team cap over his signature straw hat. On that special night, when the Dodgers faced the Chicago White Sox, 40,000 straw hats were given to attendees. However, the number of cards distributed was much smaller, making them a collector's item from the start. A gem for collectors. The value of these cards depends largely on their grade. According to Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), more than 7,000 copies have been graded, of which about 6,000 achieved the maximum PSA 10 rating. These versions can sell for more than $2,000, while ungraded versions go for around $1,000. The card that broke records this Sunday is distinguished by having received the BGS 10 Pristine Black Label rating from Beckett Grading Services, one of the most coveted certifications among collectors for its level of perfection. Of the more than 1,500 Dodgers cards graded by Beckett, only 50 have achieved this status. Specialized content creator real_joshua, who attended the event, explained on his YouTube channel that this is "the most important One Piece card ever printed," not for its rarity or its power in the game, but for its cultural value. According to his testimony, there were attendees offering hundreds of dollars for the letter inside the stadium, as soon as it was received.
Before this phenomenon, One Piece had already collaborated with the German club Borussia Dortmund, which also released a commemorative card during a match. That version sold for over $5,000 on eBay, according to the Card Ladder database.
The all-time record for a One Piece card remains $111,020, achieved in August 2024 by a Championship 2023 Second-Place Prize #ST04-003 Textured Kaido, also rated BGS 10 Black Label.
