The strong fight in the Major Leagues in the game between the Angels and Atlanta
Reynaldo Lopez and Jorge Soler starred in the first major fight of the 2016 MLB season. The benches emptied immediately
The Atlanta Braves defeated the Los Angeles Angels 7-2 in a game played at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. But the scene that stole the spotlight in this game was the fight between Dominican Reynaldo Lopez and Cuban Jorge Soler. The two players sparked the first major altercation of the 2026 Major League Baseball season. The fight and tension seemed to erupt out of nowhere, but it was a conflict that gradually escalated. In the first inning, Jorge Soler hit a solo home run off Reynaldo Lopez. In his second at-bat, Jorge Soler couldn't get to the plate properly. Reynaldo Lopez hit him with a fastball that reached 96 mph. The personal duel between the two was already heating up. By the fifth inning, the third round between these two players had arrived. With the count in favor of the Cuban, Reynaldo Lopez threw a high, inside pitch that ended up being a wild pitch because the catcher couldn't handle it. "I asked him if everything was okay, and I didn't like the answer he gave me. That's why I went over there," Jorge Soler said about the incident. Reynaldo Lopez wouldn't throw another pitch. The Atlanta Braves player went straight to confront him, and the two began exchanging blows near the mound.
Evidently, Reynaldo Lopez and Jorge Soler were immediately ejected by home plate manager Vic Carapazza. Official statements from MLB are still pending to determine the severity of the sanctions.
