They are looking abroad for the new head of VAR for Liga MX
Horacio Elizondo is looking for a replacement for Miguel Angel Chacon as head of VAR in Liga MX, after the doubts this system has generated in Mexican soccer
Given the lack of credibility that has been generated around the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in Liga MX, the head of the Referee Commission, the Argentine Horacio Elizondo, has taken on the task of finding a new starting referee, and it wouldn't be surprising if he were also a foreigner.
After the departure of Miguel Angel Chacon and Jorge Perez Duran, who headed the VAR system, due to the frustration generated by the pressure from Liga MX teams, Elizondo has begun searching for Chacon's replacement, and the search extends beyond Mexico's borders.
The orders for Horacio Elizondo from the Liga MX high command have been clear: search both within and outside of Mexico for the person to take charge of this key function in the refereeing system, where complaints against VAR have become more frequent in every match of the last two tournaments.
The reality is very simple: after the error of this system in the match between Cruz Azul and Pumas on matchday 17, where a VAR error by international referee Cesar Ramos, along with referee Fernando Hernandez, failed to call a red card for the Panamanian Adalberto's unfriendly tackle.
Carrasquilla's complaint about the Colombian goalkeeper caused things to get very tense among the referees themselves. This incident, in which the referee complained about the lack of support from Cesar Ramos in the VAR room, stating that he hadn't been shown the correct angle of the play, created a very tense atmosphere heading into the playoffs. The refereeing leadership decided not to use this review system again in the finals, leading teams to complain of being completely defenseless. For this reason, Elizondo tightened the VAR regulations and ordered referees not to use this system to determine the course of a match, taking into account that the position of director is now vacant and he has undertaken the task of finding a new head for this essential area in modern football, and therefore they will not hesitate to bring in someone from outside.
Elizondo, in his inner circle, has mentioned that it won't matter if this person is foreign or national, given the current loss of credibility in the refereeing profession, especially regarding VAR, where the failures in reviewing plays have left no one satisfied. Therefore, an attempt will be made to stabilize this area to recover the lack of confidence that exists in the work of the referees.
