RAE reveals how you really greet on WhatsApp: Good day, Good morning or Good morning?
There are ways that are used for a specific time of day, but others can be used at any time
With around 2 billion active users worldwide, WhatsApp is a global instant messaging application, which is common to use on a daily basis. However, there are some doubts about its use.
One of the main questions is how we should greet people and what is the official way to say it when starting a conversation. Although, until now, the doubt seemed unresolved, the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) has clarified it.
The RAE has received numerous queries regarding a linguistic issue related to the use of greetings in different applications, including WhatsApp. Users from all over the world are wondering whether it is better to use "Good morning" or "Good morning."
Latin American and Spanish users have turned to the venerated linguistic institution to clarify the correct greeting when starting a chat on WhatsApp, due to the different ways that can sound more formal or natural, depending on the context.
What is the correct way?
The RAE clarified that both expressions are grammatically valid, although there are regional peculiarities that influence their use. However, it emphasized that "Buenos dias" is often used generically almost everywhere in the world. The linguistic institution confirms that both forms of greeting are appropriate. However, the entity also specifies that "buen dia," which as a greeting is practically never used in Spain, alternates with buenos dias in almost all of America." In the case of "Buen dia," it appears more frequently in Latin American countries such as Argentina and Uruguay, where it is considered equally respectful and appropriate. It can be used at any time of day.
However, "Good morning" can also be used when saying goodbye, but it is not as pronounced in everyday life. Variants such as "Have a nice day" or "Have a nice day" broaden the available options and denote courtesy and good wishes to the other person.
In the case of "Good morning," it's a more informal and colloquial greeting, often used in Spain and some parts of Central America. This form can be adapted to any time of day and is commonly used among family groups, friends, and trusted individuals.
