A girl identified as Nadiya Santiago, only 11 years old, allegedly took her life on May 19 in New York after being a constant victim of bullying at school, according to her family.

The minor was studying at Frontier Middle School, a school located in Hamburg, south of Buffalo, in the state of New York, reported the Daily Mail.

Although the family did not publicly detail the exact circumstances of his death, a campaign created on GoFundMe noted that “bullying is a terrible thing and takes the lives of thousands of children every year.”

The fundraiser was organized by Nadia Dicioccio, the minor's sister-in-law, with the aim of helping to cover funeral expenses, moving costs and possible legal expenses related to the case.

The school asked parents to monitor social networks

In a letter sent to parents and school workers on May 21, director Daniel Charland avoided directly referring to the causes of death, although he asked representatives to remain attentive to their children's digital activity.

"We kindly encourage you to stay involved in your children's social media activity. Your awareness and participation play a vital role in keeping all of our students safe and supported," the statement noted.

The principal described Nadiya as “a sweet member of our school community,” known for her smile, kindness, and academic curiosity.

According to local media Niagara Action, bullying would have played a determining role in the girl's death.

Colleagues and family mourn the loss

The school reported that counselors and social workers will be available to help students affected by the tragedy and accompany them during the grieving process.

On the GoFundMe page, the family described Nadiya as a “bright and energetic” girl who enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing soccer, boxing and sharing outdoor activities with her siblings.

“His laughter and kindness touched many lives, and his absence has left a deep void,” the publication noted.

A friend of the family, identified as Nicole Brown, expressed her pain on social networks and recalled the affection she felt for the minor.

As of Monday afternoon, the campaign had raised about $26,000.

The family thanked the support received

In an update published at the fundraiser, Nadia Dicioccio stated that the family was deeply grateful for the expression of support and solidarity.

He also shared a message from the girl's parents thanking them for the donations received to cover their daughter's funeral and burial.
