Man in Palm Beach stabs his roommate after argument over drugs
The suspect, James Griffin, was arrested Sunday for the alleged murder of 73-year-old Dennis Lamy, with whom he shared an apartment.
A 57-year-old man was arrested after being accused of fatally stabbing his roommate during an argument over drugs, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office confirmed in Florida.
The suspect, James Griffin, was arrested Sunday for the alleged murder of Dennis Lamy, 73, with whom he shared an apartment in Lake Worth Beach.
According to the police report, the fight began after Lamy refused to buy drugs from Griffin, who responded by hitting him and then stabbing him multiple times inside the home. Authorities said the victim's body was found with the knife still embedded in it.
Griffin later contacted a friend, to whom he confessed to the crime. The woman picked him up at the scene, drove him to a Walmart, and then alerted police about the confession.
Surveillance cameras captured Griffin throwing his cell phone into some bushes outside another market, intending to get rid of incriminating evidence, according to investigators.
Griffin was formally charged with first-degree murder with a deadly weapon and tampering with physical evidence. He is expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday. According to court records, the defendant was on probation for a previous stabbing, so the judge ordered him to be held without bail in the Palm Beach County Jail.
