Marriage proposal goes viral by its strange sequence: it ended in yes, of a miracle
He wanted to surprise her with a romantic proposal, but he almost ended up eating the ring: the scene went viral because of how absurd it was
A marriage proposal can be exciting, romantic or... just weird. The case of Maria Gabriela Alvarez on TikTok falls into this last category. The young woman shared a video titled: "POV: They ask you to marry them and you don't realize it because you're hungry," and the truth is, she wasn't exaggerating.
In the images, which already have more than 34 million views, you can see how a carefully planned surprise ends up looking like an unintentional comedy scene.
It all started at a restaurant, where the couple was enjoying a seemingly special dinner. For the big moment, the groom ordered a dessert covered in white chocolate and hid a small box with the ring inside.
The problem: no one warned her that she was getting straight to the point, that is, to the chocolate. She hit the topping, broke the sweet, and began to eat, unaware that something more important than the filling awaited her: her engagement.
A cold proposal and a girl with no reaction... or response
Seeing that the romantic move was about to become a forgettable anecdote, the boyfriend had no choice but to take the box from the bottom of the plate and place it in front of her, already with some desperation in his eyes. It was then that the young woman finally realized that what was happening was not part of the menu. "Will you marry me?" he said with curious coldness.
The reaction was a poem. She stood stiff, spoon in hand, her expression more like stage fright than excitement.
There were no screams, no tears, no hands on her chest, just an awkward pause, a confused look, and, in the end, a yes that seemed to come more from social pressure than romantic euphoria. The final kiss came, but the enthusiasm seemed to have been buried in the dessert.
María Gabriela herself (@mariagabrielaam) made the unexpectedness of the scene clear in her description. "I almost ate the box with the ring in it," she wrote, generating a wave of funny reactions among users."She seemed happier with the dessert than the ring," one commented. Another was more direct: "In her mind she said no, and she knows it perfectly well."
There were also those who criticized the execution of the proposal: "I don't know what's worse, the box inside the food or the simple way she asked him," wrote a third user.
