Remember a young victim of accident traffic in Santa Ana
The city is one of the most violent in traffic accidents in California
Dozens of people attended the fair in honor of Leticia Placencia Alvarado. A photo of a car accident victim hung in the entryway along with white flowers at her aunt's home in Santa Ana.
Attendees purchased tacos, pozole, agua fresca, goat meat, pork ribs, and more with the goal of helping the family financially after Alvarado's unexpected passing.
Intias Alfredo Alvarado Arias, the deceased's husband, shared that the community support was incredible and emphasized that Alvarado always had a big heart.
"Leti was someone who smiled even in the worst of times. She never stopped smiling at anyone or stopping supporting anyone because she had a big heart. What she wanted was to cover more to help everyone, Arias said.
The 32-year-old Latina died during a traffic accident a week ago, where a driver, Jose Andres Delgado, was traveling at high speed northbound on Main St., south of Warner Ave., in the oncoming lanes, according to a statement from the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD).
They added that several southbound vehicles managed to avoid a collision before Delgado hit three vehicles.
On August 4, 2025, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Santa Ana police Ana received multiple reports of a multi-vehicle collision at Main Street and Warner Avenue.
Officers, along with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), responded to the scene and saw the aftermath of the four-vehicle crash.
Delgado and Alvarado, both Santa Ana residents, were pronounced deceased at the scene by OCFA officers.
Five passengers in a third vehicle, ages 39, 19, 18, 11, and 1, were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The driver and sole occupant of the fourth vehicle remained at the scene and was unharmed.
Currently, The Santa Ana Police Department's Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) is investigating the crash. Due to the unexpected and expensive costs of a funeral, Alvarado's family created a GoFundMe page and held a funeral kermesse to raise money for the expenses. "Letita was full of life, love, and kindness," the family wrote in the GoFundMe campaign. "She had a smile that could light up any room and a heart that was always willing to help others. His sudden departure has left a void that words cannot explain.
Alvarado's husband shared that it is something he will never be able to get over. He also emphasized that losing his wife in seconds was horrifying. Maybe I'm dreaming or I don't know, I'm living someone else's reality, but not mine... it's something I can't describe because I still miss her and it's something that hasn't arrived with me yet, I'm waiting for her and it's something I'm not going to be able to get over, said the victim's husband. Between February 3, 2025, and August 3, 2025, there were more than 613 traffic accidents with injuries, according to data from Santa Ana. The city is the most densely populated in Orange County and ranks third among the 13 most populated cities in California in accidents traffic with injuries or deaths of cyclists, and fifth in traffic accidents involving pedestrians, according to information from Santa Ana.
To address the problem, the city launched the Santa Ana Vision Zero Plan where the city conducted an analysis to identify contributing factors or patterns in collision data, in order to locate hot spots, city-level trends, and best practices in traffic safety.
This will allow us to identify solutions that will transform Santa Ana's road network into a place where users can make transportation decisions and avoid unforeseen errors without the risk of serious injury or death.
