Turki Alalshikh Pressures Stevenson: I Want a Great Performance
Turki Alalshikh was clear and assured that depending on what Shakur Stevenson does against the Mexican, they will be able to continue holding other duels
His Excellency Turki Alalshikh put a little more pressure on Shakur Stevenson, World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion, by demanding a great performance against William 'Camaron' Zepeda on July 12 at Louis Armstrong Stadium from Queens, New York.
In a roundtable discussion with Mike Coppinger, Rick Reeno, and Ish Hinson, Alalshikh was clear that depending on Stevenson's performance against the Mexican, they could continue to fight together.
“I want a great performance from Shakur because I'll try to get more important fights for him,” said the Arab sheikh.
In fact, Turki Alalshikh has already made it clear that he will no longer support runners during the Riyadh season due to the boring fights on May 2 and 3. This will put pressure on Stevenson, and he will surely have to opt for a trade with the powerful Zepeda.
According to experts and sports experts, Camaron Zepeda could cause problems for Shakur Stevenson due to his aggressive style. The American tends to move a lot in the ring and has been criticized for his lack of action in his recent fights.
Following hand surgery, the American champion returned to action in February and knocked out Josh Padley on a card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. For this fight, the WBC lightweight champion promised that he would crush the Mexican and that fans would enjoy a fight with a lot of action.
Instead, Camaron Zepeda booked a rematch against Tevin Farmer and repeated the result of the first fight. With this victory, the Mexican defended his position as the WBC mandatory challenger and will now look to crown himself against Shakur Stevenson.
Shakur Stevenson, 26, is coming off a victory over Josh Padley, who replaced the injured Floyd Schofield Jr., to defend his absolute WBC lightweight championship. The American has a record of 22 wins, 11 by knockout, and no losses.
William Camaron Zepeda, 28, retained his interim WBC lightweight title against Farmer again and remains undefeated in the sport. The Mexican fighter has a record of 33 wins and no losses, 27 of them by knockout.
