Democrat Jim McGovern anticipates that Trump's idea of ?taking over countries will affect the US.
Jim McGovern, Representative from Massachusetts, foresees a huge risk in Donald Trump's position of taking over countries
Jim McGovern, Representative from Massachusetts, warns that President Donald Trump's position of taking over countries like Venezuela and Cuba will have a severe impact on the United States with repercussions at a global level.
On January 3, by order of the tycoon New York, US forces carried out military incursions and bombings in Venezuela, resulting in the deaths of dozens of members of the Bolivarian army.
The mission was to capture former President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores and take them to New York, where they will face trial on charges of leading a cartel that trafficked drugs destined for the United States.
However, various political analysts agree that the true purpose of the incursion was to seize Venezuelan oil fields in order to cut off the supply of crude oil to other nations considered hostile to Washington, such as Cuba.
Although the action was described as a violation of the sovereignty of the South American nation, no one dared to challenge Donald Trump, and from this stemmed his idea of ??tightening the embargo on oil imports to Cuba, a country he has said he can do whatever he wants to.
“I think I can do "Do whatever you want with it. Whether I liberate it or take it, it's a very weakened nation now. I would have the honor of taking Cuba. That would be good. It's a great honor," he said during a meeting in Washington with members of the press. Regarding this, during his appearance on the Bloomberg program "Balance of Power," Democrat Jim McGovern warned about the risks of interfering in the fate of both Venezuela and Cuba. "Donald Trump thinks he can intimidate anyone in the world and take over this country, or that one, or any country he pleases. He talks about turning Cuba into a US satellite state. Imagine being Cuban and hearing that," he said. However, the biggest risk identified by the representative lies in the steps other powers like China and Russia, also interested in expanding their territory at the expense of subjugating other countries, might take. “Frankly, that's going to cost us dearly, as it sets a dangerous precedent. I can't imagine what China and Russia are thinking. China is probably saying, 'Now is a good time to seize Taiwan'; while Russia is saying, 'Don't talk to me about Ukraine. Because you're getting involved in Venezuela, you're getting involved in Iran, you're now getting involved in Cuba,'” he emphasized.
