Eddie Hearn on Canelo's decline: 'He's destroyed by the war'
Eddie Hearn stated that Canelo Alvarez is not physically at his best and that this affected him in the fight with Terence Crawford
Eddie Hearn, promoter of Matchroom Boxing, believes that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is no longer the same as before because he is suffering from many injuries from the many battles he has fought in the ring.
In statements to the press reported by Boxing News 24, Hearn expressed that Canelo Alvarez is not physically at his best, and that this affected the former undisputed super middleweight champion in his fight with Terence Crawford.
“Canelo is getting older and carrying a lot of injuries. I think he's worn down by the war. He didn't like the fight with Crawford, but the money was too good to turn down. That style isn't easy for him at this stage of his career,” he said.
Despite the fact that Bud's style isn't good for the Mexican, Canelo Alvarez told TV Azteca that his plans were to seek a rematch against the American to regain the 168-pound belts and confirmed that they were in negotiations.
According to trainer Bernie Davis, Terence Crawford is demanding $100 million, but we'll have to wait and see if Turki Alalshikh is willing to pay it.
In their first fight, Canelo Alvarez was outmatched by Crawford thanks to his technique, speed, and boxing intelligence. At the end of the 12 rounds, the judges awarded the victory to Bud—as he is known—by unanimous decision.
With this result, the American fighter dethroned the Mexican in the super middleweight division and made history by becoming an undisputed champion in a different weight class for the third time.
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, 34, lost his undisputed 168-pound championship to Crawford in a historic fight. The Mexican now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), three losses, and two draws in his professional career.
