The wife of former senator Bob Menéndez will be imprisoned for 56 months to serve a sentence for accepting bribes in exchange for political favors
In the midst of the fight to free herself from a cancer that puts her life at risk, Nadine Menéndez, wife of former senator Bob Menéndez, will begin serving a four and a half year sentence derived from acts linked to bribery in which she participated.
Last September, the Lebanese woman was sentenced to 54 months in prison due to her participation in a bribery network that exchanged political favors in exchange for million-dollar gifts.
Taking advantage of the fact that her spouse served as president of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Nadine Arslanian served as a negotiator to obtain money, gold bars and even high-end automobiles, in exchange for favoring the interests of foreign businessmen living in the United States.
The fact that she spoke four languages and was the attractive wife of a powerful Democratic politician allowed her to offer favors to wealthy businessmen, for whom she was able to charge quite well.
While Bob Méndez ended up in a federal prison in Pennsylvania where he served an 11-year sentence deprived of his freedom; His wife Nadine will begin to pay her debt to justice this Friday.
For months, the lawyers in charge of her defense managed to postpone her entry into prison, arguing that she is a victim of breast cancer and demands rigorous treatment. However, the court refused to grant him more time in freedom, requiring him to surrender before the authorities to avoid imposing greater severity on his sentence.
"The Federal Bureau of Prisons cares for many inmates with various medical conditions, including those who were being treated by outside medical professionals before the inmate surrendered. The same is true in this case," the Court detailed in a brief statement shared on social media.
At the time, Bob Menéndez tried to blame his spouse for all the accusations brought against him by pointing out that he was unaware of the arrangements he reached with those requesting political favors, but this argument collapsed during the trial where he ended up being blamed for his actions for being a legislator focused on his personal interests and relegating the demands of the nation to the background.
