OCFA Fire Authority Eliminates Explosion Risk in Orange County
OCFA confirms that there is no risk of the explosion at the KGN Aerospace tank in Garden Grove, but there is still a threat to public safety
The risk of a massive explosion of the tank that stores a highly toxic chemical substance in the city of Garden Grove has been eliminated, the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) reported this Monday morning.
On social media, OCFA said the risk of a massive explosion at the tank storing about 7,000 gallons of methyl methacrylate at the KGN Aerospace facility in Garden Grove had been eliminated.
"The risk of massive explosion from vapor expansion of boiling liquid has been eliminated, but a threat to public safety still exists. No chemical leak has been detected, as verified by continuous atmospheric monitoring," OCFA said on social media.
The OCFA announced that more information will be provided at a press conference.
More than 50,000 people remain under evacuation orders due to the danger of an explosion or a leak of 7,000 gallons of the dangerous chemical substance, in an incident that prompted the issuance of a state of emergency by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
