Among the agents sent would be members of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), who are said to be arriving at Coast Guard Island in Alameda starting Thursday, Kron News reported Wednesday, citing a statement sent by a Coast Guard spokesperson.
“The US Coast Guard is providing support to Customs and Border Protection facilities as requested, in a support role. The Coast Guard is focused on ensuring safe operations in support of federal partners. California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday he will sue the White House again if he tries to deploy troops to San Francisco.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, in his strongest comments yet about Trump, condemned the impending federal action.
“In cities across the country, masked immigration agents are being deployed to use aggressive enforcement tactics that instill fear so that people don't feel safe in their daily lives,” Lurie said at a virtual news conference. "These tactics are designed to incite backlash, chaos, and violence, which are then used as an excuse to deploy military personnel.
