Tesla suffers sharp fall in sales in an important country
Tesla recorded a sharp sales drop in Spain during April, although its models continue leading the annual electricity market
April left an unexpected signal for Tesla in one of the European markets where interest in electric cars continues to grow strongly. The led brand by Elon Musk closed the month with barely 301 units registered in Spain, a result that represents a fall of 47.3% compared to the same period last year.

The coup is eye-catching because it comes just when the Spanish electrified market continues accelerating. While other brands maintain positive figures and expand presence, Tesla went through one of its weaker months in a long time in the country.

The numbers published by the ANFAC association reflect a unusual scenario for the American manufacturer, especially considering the weight that models such as the Model 3 and the Model Y have within the European electrical segment.
A stumble in the mid electric boom
Although the Tesla data generates noise, the general panorama of the Spanish market is still quite favorable for e-vehicles lectrified. Pure electric, plug-in hybrids already represent more than 60% of registrations in the country.
That means that the problem does not seem to be related to a fall in interest in electric mobility. Instead, different analysts point to possible logistical delays, adjustments in deliveries or internal movements within the brand's commercial strategy.
Tesla has previously showed similar behavior in several markets. Its distribution cycles tend to concentrate many deliveries towards the close of each quarter, leaving intermediate months with considerably lower figures.
The accumulated of the year continues to be positive
Despite the complicated result in April, Tesla still maintains a favorable balance in Spain if the first four months of 2026 are observed as a whole.
Between January and April, the company's sales grew by 29.1% compared to the same period of 2025. In addition, both the Model 3 and the Model Y continue to lead the lists of the best-selling electric vehicles in the country.
This allows to think that the monthly fall could respond more to a specific situation than to a real loss of interest in the brand's products.
In fact, Tesla still maintains an extremely strong position within the European electric segment thanks to its charging network, autonomy and global recognition.
Toyota seized the moment
While Tesla was going through this unexpected brake, other brands took advantage to gain prominence in the Spanish market. One of the models that stood out was the Toyota C-HR , which managed to become the best-selling electric of-the-month.
The competition within the European electrical segment became much more intense in recent years. Traditional manufacturers and new Chinese brands began to pressure with more aggressive prices, more equipment and faster deliveries.
This context obliges Tesla to maintain a constant pace to not lose ground in markets where it previously seemed untouchable.
