Leslie Grace, as is
The Dominican artist returns to music with an album that reflects her current state
Leslie Grace hadn't recorded an album since 2013, when she released the album “Leslie Grace”. She was 17 years old. Then she released several successful singles and an EP. And it was until 2026 who wanted to return to the world of music —which must be clarified, he never left— but with a more solid, complete, various project and that shows it, he says, as it is.
“It's the most vulnerable project to date,” he said about ‘Love, who are you?'” “And I think that has a lot to do with the time that has gone and what I've experienced.”
“I've never taken the time to pause and put together a record like this,” he said. “I think I also had to go through a lot of things to put it together.”
Leslie had good reasons for not producing a second album. She was quite busy with her acting career, which is going ahead with several projects alternating in film and t elevisión. The most recent was a role in the film “Campeón Gabacho”, by Mexican director Jonás Cuarón, and where he alternates with artists such as Cheech Marín, Rosario Dawson and Rubén Blades.
That gave him time to think and mature the type of performer he wanted to be and the message he wanted to convey musically.
“Like little by little I've been gaining that clarity,” said the artist of Dominican descent born in The Bronx 30 years ago.
And all that he had saved couldn't be told in a single song, or in isolated tracks. That's why he decided to produce a full-length album duration, as few artists do nowadays due to the changes that have happened in the recent years in the music industry.
“The artists that I admire have released complete projects that deserve to sit down and listen to them from beginning to finish,” said the singer, known for her roles in fil mes like In the Heights and Miss Bala. “They are artists who take the time to make a complete project and who are telling a story through the songs.”
This concept was born from a poem that Leslie began to write when he was 19 years old, and it was a question that he asked to love if love was a person. Together with a producer he wrote a song and he kept it for all these years, until he saw the light, but as part of “Love, who are you?”. The thirteen tracks were a kind of answers to the question of the initial track.
Leslie is excited to go on tour with her new material, and hopes to make known dates of her performances soon. She plans to do shows without neglecting her acting commitments.
“I hope to be able to sing these songs live, be on stage and do different versions of the songs,” he said. “I've waited a long time to share, so I'm ready.”
