The deadline to claim the $2.5 billion payment from Amazon is approaching
The second phase of Amazon's $2.5 billion deal enters its final stretch. Find out who can still claim a payment
Almost a year after Amazon reached a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for allegedly deceiving consumers to sign up for its Prime membership, there are just a few days left before customers of Jeff Bezos' company can claim their share of the money.
This stage corresponds to the second round of payments in the agreement between Amazon and the FTC. Unlike the first phase, when some clients received the money automatically during 2025, it is now necessary to file a claim for the settlement administrator to determine if the person meets all the requirements.
The case arose after the FTC sued Amazon in 2023 over alleged practices related to its Prime service. The agency argued that the company used processes that could lead consumers to sign up for membership without sufficient clarity and subsequently complicated the cancellation of service.
“We have always complied with the law,” the company said, rejecting having acted illegally. “We work to make it easier and simpler for customers to cancel their Prime subscription.”
For this second round of claims, eligible individuals have until July 27 to submit their claim.
Who can still claim payment from Amazon?
This second phase is not open to all Amazon Prime users. The agreement sets out specific conditions that must be met in order to file a claim. First, the person must have signed up for Amazon Prime between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
Additionally, you must meet at least one of these two conditions:
Another important requirement is that the customer has used Prime benefits 10 or fewer times during any 12-month enrollment period. According to the information in the agreement, eligible individuals received a notification by email or postal mail inviting them to participate in this second round of payments.
How to file the claim before July 27
Those who have received notification must complete the official claim form before the deadline expires.
The agreement administrator recommends using the online portal as it is the fastest method to submit the application. It is also possible to submit the form by email, although processing may take longer.
After receiving the documentation, the administrator has up to 30 days to review each case and verify that the claim meets the criteria established in the agreement.
When will they send the money?
Once the claim is approved, the payment will be issued during the calendar planned for this second phase. The first round of compensation was sent between November 12 and December 24, 2025.
For those who file a claim at this stage, payments will begin after review of the forms and, according to the settlement schedule, must be made by September.
How much money can each client receive?
The payment will not be the same for all participants. The amount will depend on the fees that each consumer has paid for their Amazon Prime membership during the time they remained subscribed. However, the agreement establishes that the maximum compensation will be $51 dollars per person.
