They launch an application to open Trump accounts with $1,000 free
The official app is now available to open Trump accounts with a $1,000 federal bonus for eligible minors in the United States
The United States government has already launched the official application of Trump accounts, a new children's savings program that includes a free deposit of $1,000 for certain eligible minors. The digital tool will allow parents and guardians to easily manage these accounts from their cell phone, as the official activation date of the funds approaches.
The Trump Accounts application can now be downloaded from Google Play and App Store mobile stores and works alongside the TrumpAccounts.gov portal. According to the Treasury Department, millions of families have already begun the registration process to access the federal benefit.
“The Trump Accounts app offers a simple, secure way for families to begin participating in a program designed to build long-term financial strength from day one,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Trump accounts were created under the One Big Beautiful Bill and operate similarly to a tax-deferred IRA. The objective is to help minors build an economic fund that can be used in adulthood for education, purchasing a home or even starting a business.
It should be noted that the launch of the application for mobile devices, as well as the activation of the website, does not mean that all Trump accounts have already been opened. In reality, these platforms will allow account management, like a bank's app, to handle the funds, including the $1,000 that will be released by the US government.
What will happen to those who have already registered?
Families who have already completed registration will begin to receive official emails starting this Thursday, May 28, and until July 4, the date on which the government deposit of $1,000 for eligible accounts will begin.
The Treasury Department indicated that messages will only be sent from the address no-reply@trumpaccounts.treasury.gov. After receiving the email, users will need to follow the instructions to complete account activation.
That same July 4, additional contributions made by parents, family members, employers and other authorized donors will also begin to be accepted. The general annual limit is $5,000 per minor.
Who can receive the $1,000
The federal deposit only applies to minors born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028. In addition, the child must have a valid Social Security number.
Families with children under 18 can also open a Trump account, although in those cases they will not receive the free contribution from the government. However, some of the children under 10 years old excluded from federal aid will receive $250 as part of a donation from the Dell family, owners of the computer company that bears their last name.
Accounts must be managed by parents or guardians until the minor turns 18. Before that age, money is not allowed to be withdrawn, except in specific situations authorized by the program.
Warn about fraud and impersonation
US authorities also warned of possible scam attempts linked to Trump accounts. The Treasury Department reminded that it will never contact users through phone calls or text messages. It is essential to keep in mind the mentioned email address from which already registered families will be contacted.
“If you receive a call or text message about a Trump account, do not respond; it is probably a scam,” the federal agency said.
In addition, he recommended entering only from the official application or by typing TrumpAccounts.gov directly in the browser to avoid false pages or theft of personal data.
