Tragic End of Saurabh Rajput: Unraveling the Meerut Murder Case
An in-depth look into the tragic murder of former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput in Meerut, involving his wife, Muskaan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla.
In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the city of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, 29-year-old former Merchant Navy officer, Saurabh Rajput, met a tragic end on March 4, 2025. The alleged perpetrators of this heinous crime are none other than his wife, Muskaan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla. The gruesome details of the case have left the community in shock and disbelief.
The Genesis of a Troubled Marriage
Saurabh and Muskaan’s journey began in 2016 when they tied the knot. In a bid to spend more quality time with his new bride, Saurabh made the significant decision to resign from his position in the Merchant Navy. This choice, however, did not sit well with his family, leading to tensions that prompted the couple to move into a rented accommodation in Meerut.
The couple was blessed with a daughter in 2019, a joyous occasion that unfortunately did not mend the underlying strains in their relationship. It was during this period that Saurabh uncovered Muskaan’s extramarital affair with his friend, Sahil Shukla. Despite the betrayal, Saurabh chose to remain in the marriage for the sake of their young daughter.
A Sinister Plot Unfolds
Muskaan and Sahil’s relationship traced back to their childhood, having studied together from first to eighth grade. Their paths crossed again in 2019 through a WhatsApp group formed by former classmates. A reunion at a local mall rekindled their friendship, which soon evolved into a romantic liaison. Viewing Saurabh as an impediment to their union, the duo allegedly conspired to eliminate him.
Their first attempt on February 25, 2025, was unsuccessful. Undeterred, they meticulously planned another attempt. On March 4, under the pretense of celebrating Muskaan’s birthday, Saurabh was invited home. That evening, he was allegedly drugged with sedatives mixed into his meal. Once unconscious, Sahil is reported to have fatally stabbed Saurabh, with Muskaan aiding in the act. The body was then dismembered into approximately 15 pieces, placed into a large plastic drum, filled with cement, and sealed. This drum was stored in a rented apartment in Meerut’s Indira Nagar area.
The Investigation Breakthrough
Saurabh’s sudden disappearance raised alarms within his family, leading them to file a missing person’s report. The police, during their investigation, detected a foul odor emanating from the rented apartment. Upon searching the premises, they discovered the cement-filled drum containing Saurabh’s remains. Inconsistencies in Muskaan’s statements further aroused suspicion, culminating in the arrest of both Muskaan and Sahil.
Legal Proceedings and Public Outcry
On March 19, 2025, the accused were presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. The courtroom witnessed heightened emotions as a group of lawyers physically assaulted the duo, tearing Sahil’s clothes, necessitating police intervention to restore order.
Further intensifying public outrage, a video surfaced showing Muskaan and Sahil celebrating Holi in Manali, a mere eleven days after the murder. This display of apparent nonchalance added fuel to the already burning fire of public sentiment.
Reflections on a Tragic Tale
The brutal murder of Saurabh Rajput serves as a grim reminder of the complexities and dark facets of human relationships. It underscores the devastating consequences that can arise from betrayal and clandestine affairs. As the legal proceedings continue, the community remains hopeful for justice and seeks solace in the collective mourning of a life lost too soon.
