Three men were seriously injured after several gunmen opened fire at the Coldspring Shopping Center in northeast Baltimore.
At least three people were seriously injured this Friday afternoon during a shooting at a shopping center in northeast Baltimore, Maryland, where several gunmen opened fire before escaping.
The victims are two 24-year-old men and another 25-year-old man, who were taken to a hospital with injuries that were initially considered life-threatening. Authorities later reported that all three remained in stable condition.
Suspects fled after opening fire
Morgan State University Police reported that three suspects, whose identity is still unknown, displayed firearms and subsequently began shooting before fleeing in unknown directions. The university campus is located a few blocks from the shopping center.
The authorities deployed an extensive operation to locate those responsible and verify if there were more victims in the area.
Following the shooting, authorities issued a mass casualty incident alert and temporarily closed East Cold Spring Lane in both directions, as well as one lane of Loch Raven Boulevard.
Forensic teams and detectives processed the scene, where more than 25 evidence markers were placed. Local media reported that more than 30 large-caliber bullet casings were found on the pavement of the shopping center.
A Maryland State Police helicopter also participated in the search and surveillance efforts.
Neighbors express concern about violence
Elouise Lemon, who lives in front of the shopping center, said that when she left her home she saw the three men lying in the parking lot.
"It is very sad that these young people have been shot. I hope they all recover," he declared.
Another resident, Rose Douglas, said that she has been living in the area for more than five decades and stated that the community was not accustomed to acts of violence of this magnitude.
While investigations continue, authorities have not reported any arrests or revealed a possible motive for the attack.
