Immigrant arrested in New York for stabbing killer his coworker and his roommate
A man was arrested on Long Island after surrendering to police and confessing to the murder of two women, one his workmate in a restaurant
A man identified as Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera, 22 years old, alleged Ecuadorian immigrant, was arrested on Saturday in Long Island, New York, after surrendering to authorities and admitting his responsibility in the deaths of two women.
The suspect faces first and second degree murder charges, according to the Nassau County police. According to the The investigators, the accused himself approached agents at a 7-Eleven store in Lynbrook, where he claimed committed the crimes.
Two crime scenes in a few hours
The authorities indicated that the first victim, a 32 year-old woman—a roommate of the suspect—, was found lifeless in a residence in Valley Stream. It is presumed that the attack occurred on Thursday night.
Hours later, the police responded to a call at a Wendy's restaurant in Island Park, where they found a second victim, identified as Ana Maria del Aguila-Cordova, 42 years old, who worked with the suspect.
Both women died from multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso, as confirmed by authorities.
Relatives of Aguila-Córdova pointed out CBS who was a mother of two young children, 8 years and 1 year, and described her as a hardworking person. Her death has generated consternation in the community.
The identity of the second victim has not been officially revealed.
Research and possible mobile
Nassau County Police Chief Patrick Ryder indicated NBC 4 that the attack may have been motivated by “anger,” although no additional details about the specific circumstances have been offered.
The authorities also noted that the suspect has no known gang affiliation. It was reported that he is originally from El Salvador and had resided in the United States for several years.
The case has generated concern among Long Island residents, who expressed fear at the violence occurred in their close environment.
The accused remains in custody and is expected to appear in court in the coming days, while the investigation continues.
