New explosion in Moscow leaves two police officers dead
Two Russian police officers were killed in a nighttime explosion in Moscow while trying to arrest a suspect
The blast in Moscow occurred near the site where Fanil Sarvarov, a lieutenant general in the Russian General Staff, was assassinated a few days ago.
“An explosive device was detonated” when the police officers approached the suspect, who was near his service vehicle, according to a statement from the local Investigative Committee, which investigates major crimes. Apparently, investigators were inspecting the site and conducting various analyses.
Some attacks claimed by Ukraine
The area was cordoned off and a large police presence was deployed, according to images released by Russian television.
Since Moscow began its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Kyiv has been accused of several attacks against Russian military officers and pro-Kremlin figures in Russia and occupied parts of its own territory. Ukraine has claimed responsibility for some of the attacks.
