Shooting at Idaho Sheriff's Office Leaves Three Minor Injuries and One Attacker Dead
A man opened fire at the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office in northern Idaho. Two civilians and an officer suffered minor injuries
Three people suffered minor injuries, including an officer, after a man opened fire Friday at the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office in Wallace, northern Idaho, authorities said.
Sheriff William Eddy explained at a press conference The alleged attacker began shooting on the street, in front of the police station, around 2:30 pm local time, prompting a rapid response from multiple law enforcement agencies. Civilians and an officer were injured. According to Eddy, two women sitting inside a vehicle were shot in the legs and suffered minor injuries. The man then entered the sheriff's office and fired at the dispatch center, wounding an officer in the ear. The officer was transported to a medical facility, as were the injured civilians. None of the injuries are life-threatening, authorities said.
The attacker was killed by officers
The sheriff said the suspected shooter was killed in what he described as an “officer-involved shootout” around 4:15 pm It was not specified how many officers fired, nor has the attacker's identity been released.
Law enforcement initially said the suspect barricaded himself inside the building, prompting the activation of tactical teams, including SWAT.
Ongoing Investigations
The criminal investigation is being handled by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office and the Coeur d'Alene Police Department, while the Idaho State Police is conducting the investigation into the officers' use of force.
Wallace, the county seat of Shoshone County, is a town of approximately 1,000 people. Authorities in neighboring counties reported that they sent reinforcements during the incident, which was initially treated as an active shooter case.
