Two women and a 2-year-old child died in a shooting in Mississippi
Authorities remain active in their search for a person considered armed and dangerous while the investigation continues.
Authorities in Jackson, Mississippi, are maintaining an active search for a suspect after two women and a 2-year-old child were found dead from gunshot wounds overnight Saturday.
Jackson Police Department Chief RaShall Brackney said officers responded around 10:10 p.m. to a report of an alleged aggravated assault in the 300 block of Queen Alexandria Lane.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found a scene that the official described as devastating.
All three victims had multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the police, the victims were two women, ages 26 and 20, as well as a 2-year-old minor.
The authorities indicated that the three people had multiple gunshot wounds.
The identities of the victims have not been released so far.
Police recovered a vehicle related to the case
During the early hours of Sunday, investigators reported that they were searching for a red Mitsubishi Mirage that had been stolen.
Authorities indicated that the person linked to the vehicle was considered armed and dangerous and could be related to the triple homicide.
Hours later, police reported the car was located in north Jackson.
However, the vehicle was unoccupied when it was found and the search continues.
Mayor's Office announces more resources against armed violence
Following the event, Jackson Mayor John Horhn announced that the city will deploy additional resources to address the increase in violent events.
In a public statement, the official noted that the community is going through a difficult time due to the recent increase in firearms incidents and maintained that the loss of innocent lives should not become a normalized situation.
The investigation remains open and authorities have not announced any arrests or reported a possible motive for the attack.
