Three women who stabbed a woman in broad daylight in Texas are charged with murder
Three women were arrested and face murder charges following the death of a mother of five who was attacked with a knife in Del Rio
Three women were arrested and charged with murder in the death of a 32-year-old woman who was stabbed in broad daylight in Del Rio, Texas, authorities said.
The detainees were identified as Kitty Mia Diaz, 21 years old; Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19; and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21.
The victim was identified by local media as Caroline “Caro” Peña, mother of five children.
Attack occurred in a busy area of the city
According to the Del Rio Police Department, officers responded around 2:10 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report that a woman had arrived at Val Verde Regional Medical Center with multiple injuries caused by an attack.
Authorities indicated that the attack occurred at a busy intersection near a commercial establishment and during high traffic hours.
Due to the severity of her injuries, Peña was later transferred to a medical center in San Antonio to receive specialized care.
Hours later, investigators were notified of his death.
According to police, the victim suffered several stab wounds.
Investigation included videos and interviews with witnesses
Authorities said detectives reviewed surveillance recordings, collected evidence and interviewed witnesses before identifying the three suspects.
Kitty Diaz and Cookie Diaz were arrested without incident on Thursday afternoon and Faz was taken into custody shortly after.
The three were later transferred to a correctional center while they await court appearances.
Police reported that the investigation remains active and that additional charges could be filed as evidence collection progresses.
Family and friends remember the victim
People close to her described Peña as a mother dedicated to her children.
A childhood friend noted that much of her life was focused on raising her family.
Another relative reported that she went to the hospital to say goodbye before the victim was medically transported.
According to local reports, Peña leaves behind five children, including a 17-year-old teenager, as well as a twin sister.
So far, authorities have not reported a possible motive for the attack.
