Unbridled violence: Mexico registered 11 police officers killed in the first 15 days of the year
From municipal agents to state and federal commanders, they are victims of ambushes or die in confrontations with criminals
Being a police officer in a country like Mexico means being at constant risk, as the presence of organized crime and the lack of equipment to combat it make them vulnerable to any attack.
From municipal agents to state and federal commanders, they have been victims of ambushes by part of criminal groups. Others have died in the line of duty during clashes with hitmen.
The truth is that the number of officers killed in Mexico is alarming, and in just the first 15 days of 2026, at least 11 police deaths have been reported in various regions of the country.
This is revealed by a record from the civil organization Causa en Comun, which details that Michoacan accounted for four victims; Morelos, three; and Colima, State of Mexico, Puebla, and Sinaloa, one each.
In Michoacan, the record includes the murder of Javier Tennis Ceja, a municipal police officer in Tocumbo, on January 1, as well as the murders of Luis Manuel Mendoza Montalvo, Israel Reyes Castillo, and Roberto Alfredo Bravo Garcia, municipal police officers killed in the town of Zamora on January 10.
In Morelos, the murder of a municipal police officer in Jonatepec was reported on January 5, a case in which the record noted that he “had abandoned his post for a few hours,” in addition to the murders of Daniel Toledo and Gabriel Castrejon, state police officers in Jiutepec, on January 15.
In Sinaloa, the case of Francisco Javier Zazueta Lizarraga, identified as a municipal traffic officer in Aguaruto, was documented.
