Maribel Guardia remembers how she learned of the death of her son Julian Figueroa
The actress of Lagunilla, mi barrio could not contain her tears when speaking about the moment she learned of the death of her only son
The actress Maribel Guardia appeared vulnerable and spoke like never before about the most difficult moment of her life: the death of her only son, Julián Figueroa, in April 2023 due to a myocardial infarction.
During a visit to Adriana Gallardo's podcast "Chingona Mente," the small screen star recalled the moment she saw the lifeless body of her son with Joan Sebastian, as well as the difficult grieving process she has experienced as a result of this loss.
According to the Costa Rican's heartbreaking account, it all happened after one of her theater performances: "When I got home, my son was dead. So that's where they told me. Julián is dead, and I grabbed the phone and threw it against the car window. It was a miracle we didn't crash," she explained into the microphones of the digital program.
Maribel Guardia couldn't hold back her tears when talking about how shocking it was to enter the room where Julián Figueroa died: "When I arrived and saw my little son, he was asleep with his legs crossed, at peace, with his eyes closed, he was asleep. It was very hard for me, very hard for me," she added.
And while anger and sadness were the emotions that accompanied her in this critical moment, she recognizes that her faith has helped her cope with her son's absence: "I knelt, prayed, and asked for forgiveness, but there are no words for losing a child, only a mother can understand it. For someone who has lost a child, it's a totally different pain," the famous woman reiterated.
Under this same context, she reflected on the grief she has experienced since 2023: "Pain has to be a great driver, first of all, of learning because it can happen to you at night, but I believe that everything that happens to us in life can be a learning experience. I sometimes say that everything that happens is for the best, that there may be good in the death of a child, but of course it did, it taught me to get up, even though I didn't want to be able to get out of bed again," she said.
She puts these teachings into practice every day, since she considers that this is one of Julian's wishes: His absence is very hard for me, but I know that he wants me to be here with you, telling this story, I know that he wants me to be in the theater, and for people to applaud me and for me to feel happy with the affection of the people, he wants me to continue and here I am honoring my son, she concluded.
