Matthew McConaughey Raise the Voice for Texas in the Face of the Floods
The Oscar winner released a message asking for help for those affected by the recent floods in his native Texas.
In an act of solidarity with his community, actor Matthew McConaughey released a moving message asking for support for those affected by the recent floods in Texas, the state where he grew up.
Through his social media, the star of stories like “Interstellar” and “Dallas Buyers Club” spoke out about the tragedy that struck Kerr County on July 4th.
“At least 70 lives have been lost, many more remain unaccounted for, and countless Texans are suffering, inside and out,” the 55-year-old celebrity expressed at the beginning of the reflection published on his Instagram account.
Under this same premise, the Oscar winner urged those who are able to help the victims to not hesitate to extend a hand in these difficult times for the entire nation.
“If you can, please lend a hand wherever and however you can (…) It’s going to be a long road, but right now the shock, the pain and the chaos need the steady hand of a neighbor,” he asked his digital community made up of more than 10 million Internet users.
The Hollywood star concluded his message by highlighting the unity and empathy of the community in Texas: “Texans are among the people most resilient and generous on the planet," he said, not before tagging the organization he leads with his family, the Just Keep Livin' Foundation, through which he promotes other charities.
As of today, the death toll from the floods is reported to have risen to 104 people. Likewise, authorities in Kerr County, where Camp Mystic and other summer camps are located, have reported that search teams have found the bodies of 84 people, including 28 children.
