The Leopard, the new period series from Netflix that promises to be one of the best of 2025
The new audiovisual production of the streaming platform has 6 chapters where melodrama is present
Adaptations of great novels to the big screen have existed for a long time, but in recent years streaming platforms, especially Netflix, have opted for another format: series.
In that sense, Netflix has taken a new step in the same direction, with a new adaptation of a new literary classic, this time European. It is "The Leopard" (Anagrama), a work by the Italian Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa.
A novel published in 1958 that narrates the fall of the aristocracy as the dominant social class. Bureaucrats, on the one hand, and the bourgeoisie, on the other, are seizing power. In 1963 it had its first film adaptation.
Plot of The Leopard
Netflix released "The Leopard", a 6-episode mega-production that adapts one of the great works of 20th-century Italian literature. This period series required a major reconstruction effort and is receiving excellent reviews.
“An aristocratic 19th-century Sicilian family finds itself caught in a whirlwind of sociopolitical change. Sicily, in the 1860s, in the midst of a revolution, Don Fabrizio Corbera, Prince of Salina, has always lived surrounded by beauty and privilege. But as Italian unification consolidates and the aristocracy sees its position threatened, Fabrizio realizes that his family's future is in danger. To avoid this, he must forge new alliances that will test all his principles,” is the synopsis that Netflix shows about the series.
This work is set between 1860 and 1910 in Sicily and focuses on the experiences of Don Fabrizio Corbera, Prince of Salina, and his family. The series slightly expanded on the events of the novel, incorporating letters from Lampedusa and choosing Concetta's, the protagonist's daughter, as its point of view.
The series stars Kim Rossi Stuart, Benedetta Porcaroli, Deva Cassel, Saul Nanni, Pablo Calabresi, Francesco Colella, Astrid Meloni, and Greta Esposito.
"The Leopard" has received positive reviews, with some even saying it is "an exquisite portrait of a Sicilian family in troubled times," making it a shocking production full of melodrama.
